Images Reflecting the theology of Individuals and Community
Mountain is calling reminds me of what it is like to be alone as an individual in the world. You are small. There is not much that it seems like you can do, or that you much matter. You realize the grace it is to be noticed at all, and if you were alone on your journey with Christ it would be difficult in an earthly sense, just like this single person who climbed this mountain probably found it more difficult to do alone than with someone else.
The VW bus is a universally known symbol for journey, for togetherness, and for being a little zany. I see this as a metaphor for the church. You get in, and those you’re with are who you’re with for the ride. It can get cramped from an individual perspective, but there can also be great joy if everyone gives up their individual preferences for the good of the group. If you can focus on the end goal of a road trip, or of the mission of Jesus, then we should be able to have an awesome ride instead of one where we get annoyed with each other.
The construction helmets picture from Pop and Zebra point me to the verses in 1 Peter 2:5 and Ephesians 2:20, where the church is described as a building. That’s what is beautiful about these construction helmets, is that we are all under construction as individuals, and as the body of Christ. We put on our construction hats to build up the church, and therefore the individuals who are a part of it. We are creating the temple of Christ that He desires us to be.
